Plan Form - L SHAPED
LARGE OVERGROWN DITCH EXTENDS BETWEEN NGR'S, PROBABLY REMAINS OF A MOAT. BEFORE CONSTRUCTION OF TOWING PATH THIS ARTIFICIAL DITCH PROBABLY WATERFILLED (B6).
DITCH SHOWN ON ENCLOSURE MAP UP TO NGR SU912 37971. PROBABLY TURNED W ORIGINALLY TO REJOIN RIVER, ENCLOSING TRIANGULAR SITE (B2,B4).
From SU 91257966 to SU 91257958 there extends a large overgrown ditch, about 2.5 metres deep and 9.0m. wide which may represent the remains of a moat.
Before the construction of the towing-path this artificial ditch was probably water-filled. (B1)
No change; as described. There is no ground indication that the ditch ever extended northwards, although the S end almost certainly joined the R Thames prior to the towpath. Its date and purpose cannot be determined from its present shape and overgrown state. Published 25" survey correct. (B8)
