Description
Dimensions - Length 864mm.
Iron sword, guard but no handle left. In bronze sheath formed of 2 plates held together by 2 half tubes (B6-7).
Locket has decoration of triskele with coiled terminals, & cross-hatched background, with circular panel beneath. Heart shaped chape (B9-11).
Find noted (B4,B8).
Group II, Hunsbury type (B10,B12).
An iron sword rusted into a decorated bronze scabbard (classified as Group II, Hunsbury type, probably mid-early C1st BC) was dredged from the Thames at Armerden, in or about 1891 [Sometimes described as found at Bray or Taplow]. It was presented to the British Museum, by A.W. Franks, 1893 (B9, B10, and B14).
No further information obtained (B15).
