Summary

Site of 19th century church - Parish church, was rebuilt in 1854, in the style of the 14th century. Built in stone, it consisted of a chancel, nave and tower. The church contained some 16-17th century artefacts from the previous church. Restored in 1901. The building was demolished in 1981.

Description

Dimensions - Length 25m, Width 9m.
Plan Form - Rectangular.
St James' parish church was entirely rebuilt in local stone in 1854, on the site of the previous church; the archiect was J Tarring (B4-5).
Rebuilding was in C14 style with chancel, nave & W tower; was restored in 1901 (B8).
Became redundant in 1980, was demolished in 1982; photos filed (B7).

Parish Church of St. James, in the middle of the village, was rebuilt in 1854. It contains, from the former church, the following:- Fittings- BELLS: two, 2nd by Richard Chandler, 1674. PLATE: includes small cup and cover paten of 1569. Condition - Good (B4).
