TAPLOW TERRACE GRAVEL IS 25FT THICK AT WELL END PIT, THE LOWER 2-3FT CHALKY BUT LITTLE NOW VISIBLE. NO DEFINITE ARTEFACTS, BUT A ROLLED FLAKE IN ASHMOLEA N MARKED 'BOURNE END PIT' MAY BE FROM HERE (BI1) SMALL FLAKE, TRIMMER OR NATURAL.HEAVILY ROLLED(BI2). NGR IN 1(883583) WRONG. SHOULD BE AS ABOVE (BI3) 'Gravel pit' shown on 25in OS 1st edition (sheet 47.14, surveyed 1876); 'pit' shown on 6in OS (85SE, surveyed 1930); 1:10,000 OS (85NE, surveyed 1977); Proceedings of Geologists Association (Treacher, L. 1916, Vol 27, p107-109); 'sand pit' shown on 6in OS (sheet 47, surveyed 1875-6);
