A sub-rectangular moat, now dry, centred at SP 91720203 and situated upon level wooded ground. It measures, overall, 80.m E-W by 60.0m N-S. The arms are 8.0m wide and some 2.0m deep. The interior bank is 6.0m wide, up to 1.3m high on the inner side and 3.0m high above the base of the moat. The external bank averages 7.0m wide and 0.8m high. The original causewayed entrance, midway in the W side is protected by the heightening of the inner bank and by a broad outer bank, 9.0m wide, 1.0m high fronted by a weak outer ditch 4.0m wide and 0.5m deep which is connected to an extension of the N arm. No trace of buildings was found within the interior. The moat is linked by low baulks to an incomplete roughly oval enclosure of bank and ditch, about 1 hectare in area which forms an apparently contemporary annexe to the N and W of the moat proper. This oval enclosure is apparently further connected in the SW to a rectilinear enclosure of some 2 hectares which may, considering the modern form of its bounding banks, be of much later date. Published 1:2500 survey revised (B13).
Five 13th century sherds were dug out of the moat in 1972 at SP 91720204. In Bucks Co Museum Acc No 73.74 (B4).
