Monument record 0797100000 - North of Thame Road, Longwick

Geophysical survey carried out by Magnitude Surveys in February 2017 in advance of proposed residential development identified a circular ditched anomaly about 5m in diameter with a single internal pit-like feature interpreted as a possible ring ditch or roundhouse gully (B1).
Subsequent evaluation trial trenching in April 2017 and excavations in June and July 2017 by Oxford Archaeology identified a ditched trackway or droveway 10m wide and at least 30m long, aligned NNW-SSE, with steep-sided and flat bottomed ditches 0.8m and 1m wide, 0.3m and 0.5m deep. The ditch fills contained sherds of Roman pottery, a fragment of tile and animal bone. An undated oval pit 2m wide and 0.3m deep with steep sides and flat base was also found. 4 undated parallel shallow ditches 0.5m wide and aligned NW-SE were interpreted as medieval to post-medieval plough furrows.
