Description
Human remains found in February 2017 whilst digging a new grave in the cemetery extension and reported to police. Black staining at a depth of 1.1m, above fragmentary section of human occipital bone. Limestone blocks were found to lie directly over a thick layer of black wood char with small reddened clumps of heat-altered soil. All indications that the bone fragments relate to pre-modern funerary rite pre-dating the modern cemetery (B1).
Subsequent excavation identified a pit containing an un-urned cremation deposit. Neither feature produced any dating material (B2).
