This was on The Sparrows Herne Turnpike Trust road of 1762, 5 and a half miles of which was in Buckinghamshire, with the rest of the 25 and a half miles in Hertfordshire. The trust name came from a short length of road in Bushey still called Sparrows Herne. The trust's northern end was initially at a junction of the Wendover Road in Walton but in 1826 a new road, now Aylesbury High Street was constructed to take the turnpike to the junction of the High Street and Market Square. Originaly milemarkers were erected in 1764 of heart of oak, 12 inches square X 5ft 6 inches high, with 3 feet visible above ground and marked with Roman numerals. The mileages are London 13 at the south end and 37 from London at the north end on Tring Road in Aylesbury. The Sparrows Herne Turnpike Trust was one of the few trusts to continue with wooden posts in Bucks until replaced with cast iron posts in 1826. In 2017 there were 116 surviving milemarkers in Bucks out of a possible 230 milemarkers known from historical records (B2).
