Description

Roman finds (pottery, tile, and coins) recovered during a test pitting and metal detecting survey (B1).
Metal detecting survey Phase 1 recovered 7 late 3rd-4th century Roman coins. Phase 2 recovered 13 Roman coins dating from between AD 260-378, 1 roman coin dating to 1st-2nd century, largely clustered to the north-east and south-west of the church.
In Phase 1 of test pitting three pits produced sherds of roman pottery and 2 fragments of box flue tile. In Phase 2 pits 3, 13, 14, 19 produced 9 sherds of roman pottery and one fragment of tegula (B1).
