Description

Pair of semi-detached buildings located back from the main street against a backdrop of trees. The
lane onto which the building fronts is called Bradford Alley and was one of the original pre-
Rothschild village streets. The building is constructed from a wide pallet of materials including red
brick, buff brick, rubblestone, applied timber in combination with pebbledash panels and wall hung
tiles. U shaped in plan, the building sits beneath a steeply pitched gable roof laid in tile. Very tall
and visually prominent part brick and part stone end stacks. Two small catslide dormer break the
eaves line within central range of building. Two simple lean-to porches enclose doors to ground
floor level. Windows flush fitting two and three light timber casements painted in Rothschild
colours. Extremely attractive and visually eye-catching building which demonstrates the
characteristic Rothschild love of decoration and contrasts achieved through the juxtaposition of
different texture and colour. Forms part of a group of estate buildings which although relatively
modest in scale are highly decorative.
