Description

A possible water meadow or later drainage system is visible on LiDAR as an extant network of interconnecting ditches. Not the usual pattern/layout for a water meadow, and there is no visible watercourse linked to the field. Continues to north-east (B1).

A water meadow and drainage ditches of medieval/post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 700m south west of World’s End, Wendover, and centred at SP 85645 08715. A water meadow, crossed by the railway, is at the southern end of the ditches. This has straight ditches which are aligned in the same direction as some of the drainage ditches to the north. These are on both sides of a trackway/road (MBC46685) joining the road towards World’s End. Modern land use is grassland and the earthworks remain visible. The area mapped is larger than that covered by the current record. (2-6)
