Monument record 0777700000 - Field north-west of Railway Cottage

A low, slightly oval mound is visible on LiDAR as an extant earthwork in the middle of this field. Sits on top of extant ridge and furrow. Possible post-medieval windmill mound, though origin and function are uncertain. (B1)

A probable post medieval windmill mound is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 245 metres WNW of Railway Cottages and centred at SP 72683 20290, a circular mound is about 20 metres in diameter. In an arc along its W to S side is a further bank of earth, possibly from slumping. The mound is set within and atop a block of medieval and/or post medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks, so post-dating it (2-5).
