  • RIDGE AND FURROW? (Medieval to Post-Medieval - 1066 AD? to 1798 AD?)

Description

Geophysical survey carried out by MoLA Northampton in December 2015 detected three weak positive linear anomalies possibly the remains of ridge and furrow cultivation, ditches, or non-archaeological features. See report for detail (B1).
Subsequent evaluation trial trenching by Oxford Archaeology in December 2016 and January 2017 failed to identify any archaeological features. Alluvial deposits were recorded within all 15 trenches, suggesting that seasonal overbank flooding from the adjacent stream may have deterred settlement. See report for detail (B3).
