Evaluation trial trenching carried out by Cotswold Archaeology in July 2015 in advance of a proposed residential development identified the remains of Iron Age ditches aligned NE-SW, and interpreted as field boundaries. Medieval to post-medieval plough furrows were also present. See report for detail (B1).
Excavation along the street frontage in January 2019 and subsequent watching brief during construction from February to June 2019 was carried out by Network Archaeology. A single early Bronze Age flint scraper was recovered from subsoil. The remains of two pits and a boundary or drainage ditch were identified as being of later Iron Age date and are considered as related to the prehistoric field system found in the earlier evaluation. Post-medieval plough furrows and and a roadside post-medieval quarry pit with 17th to 19th century finds in the fill, were also identified. See report for detail (B2).
