Description
One and a half storey brick building forming part of a group with 97b and 99, High Street. Originally built by the Duke of Malborough as a National School. Miss Alice Rothschild arranged for a new National School to be built in School Lane in exchange for these buildings and subsequently the original school was renovated by the Rothschild family. Prominently positioned at the exit to the Waddesdon estate. Access to building via enclosed gabled porch with decorative ridgetiles and decorative wall tiles to apex of gable. Ridgeline of main building runs parallel with the carriageway with red brick stack to left hand (facing) gable. Flat roofed dormer inserted into front roof plane. Dentilated brick eaves. Two large part fixed, part opening casement windows to front elevation. Entrance to grounds of building via gabled lychgate type building, located a short distance to the left of the main building. The lichgate is a particularly prominent and unusual feature within the streetscene and reflects in its form the entrance to the churchyard on the opposite side of High Street. Architect – William Taylor. A Local Building of Note within the Conservation Area (B1).
