Description
Watching brief carried out by John Moore Heritage Services between July 2011 and May 2012, during groundworks for building alterations, service trenching, new soakaway and installation of an undergroundoil tank, recorded the remains of a brick-built post-medieval pottery or tile kiln beneath the end wall of a 17th century building. Parts of the flue chamber walls and the wall and roof of the barrel-vaulted kiln survived to a height of seven brick courses. The kiln had been backfilled in the 18th century and partially demolished in the 19th century. A steep-sided pit at least 1.1m wide and at least 0.6m deep with mid 16th century pottery from the fill was found whilst digging a new soakaway in the rear garden to the east of the outbuildings. See report for detail (B2).
