Description
Historic building recording (level 2) by Buckinghamshire Archaeological Society's Historic Buildings Group members in November 2012 concluded that The Lodge was built in the 1890s or very soon after as a 15th or 16th century style entrance lodge to Doddershall Park. The construction of the Great Central Railway line between 1892 and 1899 cut the existing western driveway into the Park and a new driveway and lodge were built along the south side of the railway. The lodge seems to have reused older architectural fragments, including moulded brick chimney stacks, moulded wooden pillars and beams, internal doors and doorframes, leaded light windows and moulded staircase, which were possibly salvaged from the earlier demolition of the NW wing or rebuilding of the NE wing of Doddershall House. The Lodge was extended with a south cross-wing in the early 20th century. See report for detail (B12).
