Description

Former alehouse known as the Rose and Crown or the Crown. Documentary references show it to have been in operation from 1753, closing in the 1920s. The building appears to be early-mid C19 with the main elevation to Ivy Lane. Double pile, central hallway, two storeys, with modern rear extension. Painted red brick construction. Gabled roof, low pitch with modern concrete tiles. Two double chimneys, one at each gable. Central door to hallway with wooden hood, four modern two-light casement windows two either side of door, first-floor infilled window above door. No evidence of cellar drop. Metal bracket for former pub sign remains, now with lantern. Situated next to a former drovers’ route (B1).
