Monument record 0768300000 - Grounds of Wendover House School

Evaluation trial trenching carried out by AS&C in August 2012 identified a number of late prehistoric boundary ditches, possibly field boundaries and recovered finds of flint, pottery and animal bone. The earliest feature (trench 4) was a large v-shaped boundary ditch, 1.5m wide and 0.9m deep, aligned NE-SW, which seems to have been in use from the Late Bronze Age to the late Iron Age, going out of use in the 1st century AD. 2 or 3 Late Iron Age shallow boundary boundary ditches (in trenches 7 and 10) on a similar alignment also seem to have been abandoned in the 1st century AD. 1 undated ditch and 2 undated postholes may also be of late prehistoric date. A number of post-medieval features (3 postholes, 2 ditches, 1 pit and a former hedgerow) were also identified. See report for detail (B1).
