Description

According to the History the deeds show the original Packhorse was built in 1707. The building was much altered by Benskin’s brewery in 1931 to the plans of J C F James, ARIBA. The extent of the original building left standing is not known but the roofs to the east end appear old. There were cottages at the rear which were demolished in the 1930s. Here were the new kennels and a house for the huntsman, “Huntsman’s Hall”, built by the Berkeley Hunt in 1796. The centuries-old link with the Packhorse name has recently been broken by the renaming of the building. This is a local building of note within the Conservtation Area of Gerrards Cross. (B1)
