Description

The monument comprises a life statue of an infantry man with rifle inverted in Portland stone, two pedestals in Portland stone, all with bronze plaques. Commemorates 185 service men and women who were killed in action in WW1 and 77 in WW2. In good condition (B1).

Listed Grade II. Chesham war memorial is a handsome monument to the First World War by a noted sculptor with dedications to the fallen of the Second World War on additional pillars. It has special interest for the quality of the stone statue of the British Tommy, one of a number produced to this design in both stone and bronze, and the clear historical significance of the monument to Chesham and its inhabitants (B4).
