Description

Made from Portland stone the memorial is an elaborate and very high tricorn water fountain on a circular base to commemorate those killed in WW1 and WW2. The memorial was designed by Kennard & Kennard, with Mr Arrrowsmith the sculptor and Mr Robinson the builder, and was originallly unveiled by Brigadier-General R J Cooper in 1920 (B1).
Photographs of the memorial and further details of the war dead (B2).
The war memorial at Chesham Bois is a singular design by a local architect: a solid pillar enriched with good-quality stone dressings. It was given the practical function of providing a drinking fountain, but regrettably this feature has been lost. However, it remains a legible historic document with clear architectural value. Listed grade II (B3).
