Description

A rough hewn granite obelisk on a square plinth and two stepped base with an impress of a cross on the front face. Commemorates 19 men killed in action in WW1 and 4 in WW2. Measures 3.12m in height and in good condition. Made by Messrs Newman and Harper, builders and inveiled by Major-General J C Swann on 30th May 1921. Funding raised by public subscription (B1).

Grade II. First World War memorial, unveiled on 30 May 1921, with later additions for the Second World War. Reasons for Designation: Historic interest - as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on this community, and the sacrifices it has made in the conflicts of the C20; Design - as a simple yet poignant obelisk; Group value - with a number of listed buildings, including the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, listed at Grade II+ (B3).
