Description
trenches in Area B identified a series of shallow ditches not shown on historic mapping and which do not appear to reflect the historic field pattern. A curvilinear feature identified in trench 106 was suspected of forming part of a ring ditch but additional trenching proved this not to be a complete circuit (B1).
Area B: Series of ditches generally aligned NE-SW and NW-SE. a single ditch aligned E-W. The ditches varied little in form across the site. They had shallow v-shaped or flat bottomed profiles, 0.20m-1.20m wide and 0.10m-0.25m deep. Plan and spacing suggest that these were part of largely contemporary arangement. Finds were recovered from only 3 contexts. These comprised fragments of land drain, pantile, bottle glass, and an iron bolt nut, indicating a 19th-20th century date. Ditch 1064 produced 6 sherds of 18th-19th century pottery (B2).
Area C: No archaeological features. A soil deposit in Trench 1 demonstrates some activity taking place here in the 19th century (B2).
