Description
A Portland stone gothic cross on a three stepped base. Commemorated ll local people who were killed in action in WW1 and 3 in WW2. The memorial was sponsored by Mr W N mead and designed by Mr A J Gurney, architect. Funds were raised by private sponsorship and the site cost £140. It was unveiled by Lord Rothschild on 7 August 1921. In good condition (B1).
Also a framed and glazed Roll of Honour inside the church. Photographs of the memorial with further detail on war dead (B2-3).
Grade II. First World War memorial, 1921, with later additions for the Second World War. Reasons for Designation: - Historic interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on the local community, and the sacrifice it made in the conflicts of the C20; - Group Value: with the Church of All Saints (Grade II+ listed) and the Lychgate (Grade II listed)(B4).
