Description

A gothic cross in Clipsham stone 4.75m in height. Commemorates 12 local people who were killed in action during WW1. Constructed by Messrs Newman and Harper, builders and dedicated by the Rev A W Spooner on 28 April 1921. Heavily weathered. Hardwick and Weedon have identical memorials bearing the same names (B1).

Grade II. First World War memorial, 1921. Hardwick War Memorial, situated in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary, is listed at Grade II for the following principal reasons: - Historic Interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on the local community, and the sacrifice it made in the First World War; - Architectural interest: an elegant cross in the medieval style; - Group value: with the Church of St Mary (Grade II*).
