Scheduled: SAM 47. Large mound, no traces of encircling ditch or bailey. Has been truncated to S by modern road, which has sliced across the base. Summit bisected E-W by a shallow depression. The whole is grass covered, with scrub. Grazed by horses (B8).
A medieval motte is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on Casstle Hill in an enclosure about 45 metres W of High Street, Wing, and centred at SP 88067 22801, the subcircular mound is about 34 metres in diameter at its widest SW-NE. The SE facing side is almost linear, probably truncated by the road against which it is located. Immediately to the NE is a small curving earthwork terrace or platform that may be associated, with its E and S sides bordered by the field boundary. On aerial photographs taken in 2022 and recent remote sensing data, the earthworks remain visible (10-12).
