Monument record 0722100000 - Padbury War Memorial, Jct of Main Street and Old End

A small rough hewn granite obelisk 2.740 m in height within iron fencing. Commemorates 16 war dead who served during WW1. The monument was designed by Messrs Newman and Harper, architect and a dedication ceremony took place on 25 April, 1920. The granite was taken from the same quarry as the Edith Cavell Memorial. War memorial located at the junction of Main Street and Old End. The memorial is located on a small
area of grass and is viewed against a backdrop of attractive historic buildings. Constructed of stone
and surrounded by metal railings and narrow planted beds, the memorial provides a strong visual
focus in the street scene and is important in terms of the social history of Padbury (B3).
