Description

Site of former memorial hall which was unveiled on 27 May 1922 by local dignitaries. It was located opposite the recreation ground in Vicarage Road. Sponsorship for the project was raised by public subscription and by Albert Wellington, 3rd Earl of Brownlow, in memory of the Pitstone residents who lost their lives in WW1. The cost of the hall was £739 4s 10d. The hall was replaced in 1974 by a brick built Memorial Hall alongside the recreational ground.
The original hall contained two brass plaques. These were later moved to the new Memorial Hall in 1974. Plaque one was dedicated to the memory of the local war dead killed in action during WW1. Plaque two was dedicated to local people who lost their lives serving in WW2 (B1).
