Description

Granite, square celtic cross, standing 2m high. The 6 o'clock face honours parishioners who died during WW1 and the 12 o' clock face those who died in WW2. In good condition (B1).
Photograph and names of the war dead (1914-1918)(B2).
Detailed information on all those who died in both World Wars (B3).
Churchyard war memorial in the shape of a cross erected in memory of soldiers killed in the First
World War. The inscription on the front of the base reads:
'1914-1918 IN AFFECTIONATE AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF PARISHIONERS WHO FELL IN THE
GREAT WAR. ALBERT LAY, O.B.L.I. DEC.12.1915, AGED 20 WALTER EWERS, O.B.L.I. AUG. 28.
1918, AGED 21 ALSO IN HONOUR OF THOSE WHO DID THEIR DUTY FROM THIS PARISH.'
Additional inscription to side of base added after the Second World War:
'1939-1945 AND IN MEMORY OF GERALD EWERS, R.BERKS. GEORGE H. JOHNSON, R.A. ALBERT J.
LONG O.B.L.I. WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR'. A local note structure in the conservation area of Ashendon (B4).
The war memorial was unveiled by Major H L Aubrey Fletcher in 1923 (B5).
