Description

War memorial comprising a 2.74m Portland stone obelisk on a granite base unveiled by the Lord Lieutenant of Bucks in May 1921 to commemorate those killed in WW1. Later the names of those killed in WW2 were added. Architect - T Thurlow; Builder - H T Dickens. Chepping Wycombe Parish Council are responsible for the memorial (B1).
The Bucks Remembers web site records only the WW1 names (B2).
Grade II. Located in a prominent position in the village, Flackwell Heath war memorial is a modest but dignified memorial to the fallen of two World Wars from this community. The design, by a local architect, is of an unusual form and is accomplished and well-realised. It is, therefore, of sufficient quality and historic importance to be of special interest in the national context and merits inclusion on the list at Grade II. The surrounding chain link fence and pillars, although a later addition, are wholly appropriate and are included in the listing (B3).
