Description

A pretty late 19th century detached brick and slate house set a long way back from the road. It does not appear on the first edition Ordnance Survey which shows a row of cottages set behind a row containing Old Post Cottage, but it is on the 1900 map. In the 1910 Valuation Survey (assessment no. 143) it was owned and occupied by John Chilton, who seems to have owned several cottages in the village. In the 1911 directory he is listed as living at Marianne House so perhaps this was an early name for Bessemer. [Photo] (B1).
