Description
Rectangular ditched enclosures of probable late Iron Age to early Roman date identified during investigations by Stratascan and Albion Archaeology from September to December 2009. The enclosures contained a sparse evidence of internal subdivision and are interpreted as an outlying field system. The naturally silted deposits within the ditch and gully fills contained a small amount of early Roman pottery and animal bone, but the relationship with adjacent late Iron Age to early Roman settlements and evidence for a trackway or droveway leading towards the field system from site AZ3, suggests that the field system is contemporary. Complex recorded as AZ4. See reports for detail (B1-2).
