Description

The birthplace of Geoffrey de Havilland, born 1882. De Havilland was an early pioneer in aircraft design and manufacture and had a significant influence on the development of the aircraft industry in Britain in the earlier 1900’s. A plaque was placed on the building in July 2000. Formally called Magdala House after a famous battle with Abyssinian forces in 1868, at Magdala, Abyssinia (now Ethiopia). Stuccoed gabled frontage under steeply pitched hipped roof in typical Victorian villa style. Sash windows, those to upper floor have wooden shutters. Twin stacks to roof line.
Enhanced by its setting at the rear of a sweep of Green. Proposed for inclusion on local list (B1).
