Description

A grand former courthouse and county police station of yellow brick with red brick courses and grand arch windows to the Hughenden Road elevation. Has a wealth of pleasing architectural details including set forward screen mock exposed timber gable to the north elevation, elaborate iron guttering including a spiral drainpipe with ornamental wall fixings, and sculpted details including the county crest to the front elevation. Date stone on the building gives the date of erection as 1876. Marred by inappropriate rear extension and modern windows, nevertheless it is a unique building of character which is strongly linked to Wycombe’s history. Proposed for inclusion on local list (B1).
County Police Station built in 1870. In 1935 the police moved to new headquarters in Queen Victoria Road (B2).
Added to local list (B3).
