Description

Evaluation trial trenching carried out in March 2011 by Oxford Archaeology failed to locate any evidence for the projected route of Akeman Street across the site due to the extent of modern truncation and disturbance resulting from recent use as a garage and motor dealership. A single residual sherd of probable Iron Age or Romano-British pottery was recovered. See report for detail (B1).
Desk based assessment concluded that development would have a major impact on the south west and south east quarters of the site that may affect any as yet unrecorded archaeological features or deposits (B2).
