Type and Period (1)
- BARN (18th Century - 1700 AD to 1799 AD)
Description
Large brick built barn probably of early to mid 18th century date, with decorative brickwork panels to both side walls, brick piers supporting the main roof timbers and a hayloft in the roof space above the projecting cart entry. The walls are doble-skinned, with the external brickwork on the side walls in Flemish Bond and the gables in English Bond (B1).
A remarkable farm building probably dating from around 1800: its mixture of English bond inside and Flemish bond outside, and the big panels of openwork brick to the upper portion is extraordinary. It is a four-bay barn with the full-height front porch to left of centre. The rear cart entrance has no porch. The barn has a single storey range extension, probably of mid 19th century date (B2).
