Description

Plan Form - CIRCULAR
1 OF 2 CIRCULAR CROP MARKS. ?RECENT (B1).

This area was assessed as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). However, the features described above were determined to be more likely associated with modern, rather than historical land use, and temporary in nature; the location of the earthworks on the photographs was different in different years. Located near Meadacre Farm, Great and Little Kimble cum Marsh, and centred at SP 80341 08191. A programme for the Olympic Horse Trials, published by the British Horse Society in 1953, lists two entries in the Grade A (top level) competition from Meadacre Farm and large training show jumps can be seen on aerial photographs in the 1960s meaning that these circular features are likely to be the result of schooling competition horses rather than earlier archaeological features. Meadacre Farm is mentioned in the history of the Kimblewick bit, which is named after the place where it first appeared. By 1994 there is no sign of equestrianism at Meadacre Farm. (3-10)
