Description

C.1850 HUMAN BONES FOUND (B1).
A "vast" number of burials was found about 1832 near Whiteleaf. The bodies each had a separate grave, were interred E to W, and were only a short depth from the surface (B2).
'RAGPIT (CHALK) HUMAN REMAINS FOUND' MARKED AT NGR (B3).
A charter of 903 mentions a "Heathen Burial Place" beside the Icknield Way - SITE IDENTIFIED AS THAT MENTIONED IN SAXON CHARTER OF E RISBOROUGH AD903 (B4).
C.30 SAXON INHUMATIONS (B5,B7).
The possibility cannot be ruled out that these burials are Medieval and not Anglo-Saxon. POSS ASSOC WITH MED MONASTERY (B6).
