PART OF AXE OF CUMBRIAN STONE (B1). HALF A STONE AXE. VERY FINE-GRAINED, GREY-GREEN, BANDED TUFF WITH CONSPICUOUS PATINA ON WEATHERED SURFACE. VERY SIMILAR TO TUFF FROM PIKE O'STICKLE (GROUP VI)(ILLUS). FOUND BY MR WHITE IN GARDEN IN WHITELEAF VILLAGE (B2). (DESCRIPTION & ANALYSIS)(B3). FOUND AT NGR (B4).



Half of a Neolithic Stone axe was found by Mr White in a garden at Whiteleaf village (SP 818042) in 1942. Petrologically examined and considered to be very similar to
Group VI (B1).
Now in Bucks Co Museum. Acc number 21/1954. Loaned by Mrs A Young, Manor Cottage, Bledlow (B5).
The axe was found while digging a cess-pit in the garden on the S side of 'The End Cottage', Whiteleaf. The finder, Mr J S Whyte, was able to indicate on the ground the exact find-spot, at SP 81840406 (B6).
