Description

RB SHERDS: MOSTLY COOKING POTS & JARS BUT 1 CHEESEPRESS FRAGMENT, 2 MORTARIUM & 2-3 ?POPPY HEAD BEAKER PIECES.SOME FABRIC HARD & SANDY, REST SOFTER LIKE HEDGERLEY WARE. DATE: MID C1-MID C4. FOUND BY MR P DAWSON, FORMERLY OF 18 CHILTERN CLOSE (B1-2).
NO FEATURES OR SHERDS SEEN IN FOOTINGS AT NO 20 (B3).



Romano-British sherds were dug up in 1966 in the garden of house at Chiltern Close SP 805032 by P Dawson. Now in Bucks County Museum. (Acc No 182.66) (B2).
Dawson has emigrated, but the present owner has about 10 sherds found by Dawson while constructing a rockery in the rear garden at SP 80460314. Some of these were dated to the 1st and 3rd century. Seven other sherds donated to the museum range from 1st-mid 4th century. Surveyed at 1:2500 (B4).
