Description
NUNNERY FOUNDED BY QUEEN ELEANOR TRADITIONALLY SAID TO HAVE EXISTED AT LITTLE KIMBLE & TO HAVE LATER BECOME THE SITE OF THE MANOR HOUSE. NOT LISTED BY KNOWLES & HADCOCK OR MENTIONED IN VCH (B1,B4).
(SP 82790622). A nunnery founded by Queen Eleanor is traditionally said to have existed at Little Kimble, and to have later become the site of the manor house, the last of which was demolished c 1830. Traces of the enclosing wall of the late manor house are still visible. (See plan - not listed by Knowles & Hadcock or mentioned in VCH). (B1)
