Description

Tithershall Wood: probably derived its name from the ancient hundred. Formed part of the Forest of Bernwode (B1).
A detached portion of (Long) Crendon. Consists of 3 cottages, 12 acres of pasture land & 85 acres of woodland (B2).
In 1086 woodland for a hundred swine, formerly shared in equal portions by the lords of the manor (B3).
Medieval forest settlement site in woodland clearing (B4).
No evidence of this site could be found in Tittershall Wood or in the vicinity. The site referred to may possibly be that of Tetchwick deserted medieval village [see CAS 00321](B5).
