Description
Dimensions - Length 102mm, Width 39mm.
SCANDINAVIAN TYPE. MR R SMITH OF BM SAID EITHER OF CHAMBERED BARROW (2300-1800BC) OR CIST PERIOD' (1800-1600BC) (B1).
POLISHED CUTTING EDGE & LOWER PART OF BLADE. FLAKE BROKEN OFF FROM CUTTING EDGE (B4).
A stone adze was found on the surface at Coombe Hill/Wendover (Coombe Hill also at SP 8909). It is of distinctly Scandinavian type and considered by Reginald Smith of the British Museum to be "either of the chambered barrow (2300-1800 BC)", "or cist period (1800-1600BC), corresponding to our Early Bronze Age", Except for grinding to produce the cutting edge the whole of the implement has been left unpolished (B1).
A lead-shaped flint arrowhead was found on the surface of Coombe Hill (B8).
