Summary

Neolithic flint scatter found on Horn Hill - Later prehistoric flint implements in the collection of Mr R Bovingdon. Most were found on the high ground above the floodplain of the River Misbourne in the Gerrards Cross and Chalfont St Peter area, although precise siting information is not available. The finds include a polished flint axe, some flaked flint axes, a barbed and tanged arrowhead, plus numerous other tools including scrapers and borers.

Description

A COLLECTION OF FLINT IMPLEMENTS FOUND BY MR R. BOVINGDON, CHALFONT ST PETER. THESE INCLUDE AXES (02:001) FLAKES (02:002) ARROWHEAD (02:003) AND ABOUT 150 FLAKE TOOLS (02:004)(B3).

Flint implements, including a ground and polished flint axe with squared sides, found on the surface at Horn Hill, TQ 0192 (B2).
Mr R Bovingdon (b6) has a large collection of flint implements picked up by him or given to him over a number of years. The majority were found on the high ground above the flood plain of the River Misbourne in the Gerrards Cross (TQ 0089) and Chalfont St Peter (TQ 0090) area, but Mr Bovingdon was unable to provide precise siting information. The finds include: One polished flint axe, c 5" long, which appears to have been regroundand sharpened in recent times, four Neolithic chipped axes, three blade tools c 5" long, one barbed and tanged arrowhead and approximately 150 flake tools including scrapers and borers (only 12 flake tools seen by the investigator) (B5).
