Description
Two storey, witchert rendered building orientated gable onto the road with boundary wall and staggered outbuildings forming the frontage boundary to Townside. The building is shown on 19th century maps of village. Gable pitched tiled roof to main building. Pantiles to outbuildings. Prominently positioned in street forming strong building line reinforced by the relatively blank elevations. This is a local building of note within the Conservation Area of Haddenham (B1).
Assessed by Historic England in 2025 for possible national listing, but rejected for the following principal reasons:
Degree of architectural interest: - the building was altered and refurbished in the late C20 resulting in a significant loss of historic fabric including the legibility of the historic plan form, all windows, one of two chimneystacks, and an axial beam to the principal room; - the late C20 refurbishment of the building is not of intrinsic interest and does not overcome the losses to this modest cottage.
Degree of group value: - although the building is adjacent to the Grade II+-listed Middle Turn, The Turn, Turn End and the Grade II-registered Garden at Turn End, this is insufficient to confer special interest.
See report for history and detailed description of the building (B2).
