Description

PREPARATIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF CHALFONT ST PETER BY-PASS (A413) LED TO THE EXCAVATION OF THE EXTENSIVE PEAT SUBSOIL N OF OAKEND HOUSE. EVIDENCE THAT A WATER-FILLED BASIN, PROB A MILLPOND, EXISTED IN MED PERIOD. NEOLITHIC FLINTS & MED POTTERY WERE FOUND IN THE MUD & PEAT. BARFIELD'S SITE II (B1-4).
Flints believed to be neolithic (B4).
