Description

Constructed in 1875-6 by Howland and Wells as a Board School, this building was converted in 1976 by County Architect Paul Markcrow to a Community Centre and Library. Constructed of brick with half hipped and gabled steeply pitched tiled roofs. Tall, elegant and visually prominent brick chimney stacks creating an interesting roofscape. Three double height arched windows to gable facing road. An attractive example of late 19th century architecture which is distinct in terms of its character and appearance within the village. Despite being set back from High Street behind wall its scale and form make it visually prominent. Forms part of a group with the Library. This is a local building of note within the Conservation Area of Long Crendon. (B1).
