Description
'Piddington' is marked on OS maps from 1921 onwards (B1).
In 1902 Benjamin North bought land at the junction of the Oxford Road and Piddington Lane from Lord Carrington for the construction of a new furniture factory and a small estate of workers' housing. The first houses to be built in 1903 included the owner's house, managers' houses and 3 terraced houses for workers. By the 1911 census there were 26 houses in Piddington, with 39 factory workers. In 1939 there were approximately 63 houses in Pidding with 57 people working in the factory. The 2011 census recorded 180 housesholds with 450 people living in Piddington. A Wesleyan Mission Hall was built in 1907 and demolished in 1986, eventually replaced by a village hall in 1973 (B2).
