Description

Knotty Green is first recorded in legal documents in 1766, with later references in 1806 (B1).
The hamlet of Knotty Green lies to the north-east of Forty Green, and contains Baylins or Balins Farm, probably on the site of the 16th-century Beelings Manor. The timber and brick house dates probably from the early part of the 16th century with later additions and alterations (B2).
'Knotty Green' is marked on OS maps from 1812 onwards. Initially a few scattered farms and cottages, ribbon development along the main roads and infilling was well underway by 1925, and modern housing estates appeared in the 1980s and 1990s (B3).
